AfterLife may wear the flesh of familiar genre trappings, but its beating heart is powered by a wholly arresting concept—one that keeps the pages turning and, most importantly, achieves what all great science-fiction strives for: wielding its unique scenario of the future to provide thoughtful commentary on the world of today that will stay with the reader long after the book is finished.

AfterDeath

AfterDeath4.png

William Butcher is still dead, but maybe that’s not so bad.

He’s found a home among the crew of the AfterLife survey ship Mictecacihuatl. Together, William and the crew prevented a massacre and (maybe) headed off a war with an alien species. Things are looking up for the undead pilot and war veteran.

For 600 years, AfterLife has maintained a division between the living and the dead. Now the crew has been chosen to escort the new Earth Ambassador to peace talks with the alien Rannit. What should be a simple job becomes anything but when assassination attempts, conspiracies, and a hidden saboteur threaten everything William and the crew have fought to bring about.

Negotiating peace may depend on breaking down AfterLife’s strictures against co-mingling the living and the dead. How will AfterLife respond to exposure of their carefully hidden secrets? The leviathan corporation is known for its ruthless pursuit of the bottom line. With the very fate of humanity at stake, AfterLife may have to loosen its grip.

For the reanimates of AfterLife one thing is certain. You only die twice.

AfterAll

William Butcher is dead and his life has gotten much more interesting.

With galactic peace brokered it may be time for William and the crew of the Mictecacihuatl to finally get back to their day job surveying star systems for resources. Humanity’s power players have other ideas.

Earth’s chief diplomat is bent on revenge against rogue elements in the Navy and the government who started the war with the blood of innocents. The Navy, reeling from the after effects of an attempted coup, is trying to regain their status and power in human politics. Now a new player emerges from the undead underground bent on the destruction AfterLife. When the rogue reanimate acquires a deadly weapon the crew of the Mictecaihuatl are tasked with hunting her down.

William and the crew are caught smack in the middle of a conflict that might very well change everything. AfterLife has held the dead in bondage for centuries, while the living are dependent on the labor of the dead. Which path will William choose? Will he fight against AfterLife’s oppression or defend the system that protects billions of living humans?

One thing is certain. There’s no rest for the dead.
